Speaking Tip: Stage Presence

Your speaking tip is here. Woohoo!!

Stage Presence
Your stage presence can have a lot to do with the success of your speech. Standing in one spot throughout a presentation does not bode well for a speaker, and neither does the exact opposite of pacing back and forth like a caged animal. Movement on stage should have a purpose. Move forward a few steps to stress an important point. If sharing a story about the past or an obstacle, walk to the right side of the stage (your right). As you talk through the events that lead to relief or success, walk to the left of the stage. Avoid presenting your back to audience. Whatever you do, move with purpose.

I Am A Speaker
That's great! You are a Speaker, so does everyone know that? Stop missing out on opportunities and tell everyone you know that you are a speaker and available to speak. Create images that promote you as a speaker and upload to social media venues. Ask associates who put on events if you can speak at a future events. Have a page on your website indicating you speak and include a link to your speaker sheet. How will people know you're a speaker until you tell them? ;)

Speaking Tip: Value Packed

Value Packed
When speaking to your audience, be sure your message has value. People love listening to stories but if those stories do not benefit them then you come off as an entertainer or, worse, a showoff. Event planners today are seeking someone who gives actionable steps to enhance the audience's experience. Give them something they can take home, practice and then discover they need your services. If you're using speaking to grow your business, this point is key to your success. Give them a reason to want MORE of YOU!

Hello!

Speaking of Value Packed, I am so excited to introduce to you a very valuable resource to me - Dee Romero! As an experienced and professional executive assistant, Dee has joined the family of 911 iMedia.com, Inc, the parent company for Back of the Room Productions and SpeakerSheets.com. She brings a level of professionalism and courtesy-ism (is that a word?) that is of great value.

Also very valued, is Dee's knowledge in business operations, communications, procedures, and dog and cat playmate. Yes, there are times, when the cats decide it's time to be petted and the dog needs a short walk. And as a fitness trainer in her off time, she is making me do exercises which I did not sign up for because she's making me sweat!! Seriously, she has already implemented procedures in prospect/client intake (we even have a dry erase board, y'all!!!), invoicing, and phone/email communications. In fact, many of you have already had the pleasure of working directly with her.

It's an exciting time at Back of the Room Productions because as you succeed, we succeed. I LOVE hearing your stories of growth and want to encourage you. Be sure to tag me on Facebook (AliciaWhite911) when you have a win so I can celebrate with you! Or send in your response to the Speaking Tip I publish. Marv Williams of Healthy Living Solutions shares his "wins" and thoughts with me! (WOOHOO, Marv!)

Cheering you on and send speaking tips are just two ways I provide value to you. If you've been thinking about where to take your coaching or consulting business or you know you want to include public speaking as a means to grow your following, it's time to talk to me. I have the formula for giving you clear direction on the next steps.

Schedule your call today; there's two ways to do it:
1. Schedule a Let's Get Started! call on www.borp.acuityscheduling.com
2. Call Dee! 214-556-4947 She'll schedule a time that is convenient for you!

I want your VALUABLE MESSAGE to leave a fantastic impression. I want people to SEE YOU as a valuable resource. Having high-level, consistent visual branding is key. Let's talk about how we can best promote your value!

Cheers to your speaking success!

Taking Time Off from Your Business Can be Scary

Howdy, y'all! I took a month off from work - yikes! How scary is that? But I NEEDED it! My business has grown like crazy over the year which led to weeks of neglecting my body, my family, and life's pleasures like going out with friends, serving the community, bird watching, etc.
I timed the month off with our annual vacation to Yellowstone. (My husband and I have visited Yellowstone national park every spring since 2006, sometimes in the fall because of the magic and excitement it brings. Yellowstone is the reset button for my soul!) Here is a photo of one a cute little black bear. You can see more at www.facebook.com/YellowstonePhotos
But I really struggled with the thought of "not working" for a month. On past visits, we both served clients remotely after hours of photographing the spectacular wildlife in the park. On our trip last spring, it was a challenging 3 week working vacation. How do you balance 8-10 hours of photographing and then work on client projects 4-5 hours each day? You don't sleep - and that's not balance. I was exhausted from my most treasured vacation!! And the imbalance continued when I returned home. I have yet to go through all of my vacation photos from last spring... how crazy is that? The memories and sights and feelings of a place I hold dear and near to my heart, are sitting on a hard drive waiting to be rediscovered.
I vowed to not do that to myself again. I decided to "take off from work" this spring even though the fear of losing clients/revenue loomed. But it was for my own well-being. I can't take care of my clients if I'm not well, right?
"How did you go about doing that," you may ask. Initially I was not going to tell my clients I was "not working." My business coach suggested another way: tell them! Let your clients in on this part of your life. And I did; I included a short story and photo about a past visit too Yellowstone in my bi-weekly speaking tip email and shared I would be gone for a month.
And guess what? My clients and community were HAPPY for me! They said "a well deserved vacation," "send pics," "can't wait to hear all about it." What a relief! I wasn't letting down my community, they were cheering me on!
You deserve time away to take care of you - let your community know. They want you to succeed as much as you want them to. Be kind to yourself...
